I started building knives when I was about 14 years old. I found a book at the library, soaked it up, and went from there. My first knife was made from a piece of non-descript mild steel, birch wood, and brass rivets made for leather applications. I had basically no power tools, and did the work with a file and sandpaper.

Over the years, my knowledge, process, and equipment has grown immensely. An important part of the equation is my knowledge and love of the outdoors that continued to grow in conjunction with the knives. Before I started making knives, I discovered what I think is best described as primitive wilderness living skills. I fell in love with the idea of being able to walk into a trackless wilderness with only a good blade, and being able to not only survive, but live relatively comfortably.

I spent many hours practicing and learning these skills, and continue this today. Aside from practicing bushcraft type skills, I also hunt to stock our freezer with meat, go camping and backpacking, and work around our little farm. I also spent seven years as a LE officer. All this has provided a valuable background for my knife making pursuits. I have been able to learn a lot about what works well in a knife and what doesn't, and I continue to refine this.

I made a few knives to sell over the years, but it wasn't until 2015 when my lovely and supportive wife suggested I make my knives available to a wider market. Since then I've been slowly building up my production.

I love building knives not only because I love knives, but for the process as well. A knife, or the concept of a knife, is one of the simplest tools in existence. However, the endeavor to make a knife (even one of a basic design) is not quite so simple. There is a lot that goes into a good knife: cutting, grinding, filing, sanding, hardening, tempering and polishing the steel; selecting the handle material, rough cutting the pattern; drilling, glueing, shaping, sanding and polishing the handle; cutting, glueing, stitching, riveting and shaping the sheath.

In these days of mass, foreign produced items I take pride in producing a quality, one of a kind product for years of use. These blades were made for a purpose, and I hope each one has a long story.
